Is it time for another revolution?

Yes a revolution is needed, but it won't happen soon. Public opinion has to change. To many people say, "Oh politics doesn't interest me." or "I don't pay attention to what those politicans do." The government is supposed to be by the people, for the people, but the people gave up control. Now in Maine we have taxes passed without the public's knowledge. At the federal level, if you try to call your senator to tell them how you feel, a staffer will tell you your ideas are out of step. Are you kidding me? We did this to ourselves.

Yes and it starts at the ballot box by voting for those who will be responsive to their constituents first, last and always rather than toeing the party line and being beholding to lobbyists.

Augusta politicians by any stretch of the imagination are out of control. We have legislators passing new taxes without any public input. We have engineered political opposition created by legislators Hannah Pingree and others to oppose any peoples involvement in state tax policy. We have the BDN signing on to this. We have LURC who controls every aspect of personal real estate making rules without legislative or the peoples involvement. We have the most powerful group in the state.. DHHS making rules and invading our personal lives in the same manner. We have educators who believe they know better whats best for your child than we do. We have all of these groups spending our tax dollars and continually grabbing more as if its their due. Whats more the growth of State spending is outstripping the growth of the economy at large and that is unsustainable. HOWEVER, We voted for these people, we applauded their speeches at civic events. We beseeched them to solve our woes for us. But before we grab the iron rakes and storm the Blaine house call your legislator... E-mail the governor with your views...support other canidates even if it looks like they cant win. Send Augustas opposition money. Write opposing pieces in the Newspapers. Stand and speak at town meetings. As long as we can muster opposition and we have vehicles to do it like the BDN and in other places ALL is not lost. Its only when the BDN doesnt print our opposition piece or when you are not allowed to speak in public forums other options should be considered.

I indeed belive it is time for a revolution, but how could that ever happen with a country and it's people so divided? When the constitution was written, young respected their elders and obeyed their commands, and they had a lot less people to get across to. It was a good idea at the time, but I am sure that our fore fathers had no idea what was to come of this beautiful land that they worked so hard to build. There are just too many of us that don't believe in the same things, or if we do believe in the same things we can never figure out how to work together and compromise on one idea to make anything a success. If this country, at this point in time, tried to revolt I think we would be in even more trouble than we already are. What an unorganized chaos it would be.
